The leaders of Shenzhen City have had the foresight to think deeply about how to satisfy the growing demand for cultural life while meeting the growing demand for material life. Venerable Ben Huan was the vice president of Guangdong Buddhist Association at that time, and was an influential monk, he deeply felt that building a large temple in Shenzhen to promote Buddhism is the wish of the people, is conducive to the construction of the socialist economy and spiritual civilization of a good thing, it is his historical responsibility. In early 1983, coinciding with the "Guanyin's Birthday", Venerable Ben Huan, at the age of 77, took several disciples and came to Shenzhen by train from Guangzhou, and then hiked from the Shenzhen Railway Station to Wutong Mountain, climbed up the mountain and crossed the water, and decided to build a new temple deep in Wutong Mountain after several explorations.

Wutong Mountain in Sha Tau Kok north, belongs to the eastern suburbs of Shenzhen, is a remote ridge mountain group, the mountains hold the lake, four seasons, evergreen, beautiful, immortal lake, blue water ripples, and daylight interplay, the scenery is excellent, fascinating.

Elder Ben Huan started to build a Buddhist jungle here, and had already named the temple "Puxian Temple", but Grand Master Zhao Puchu thought that "the belief of Puxian Bodhisattva" was not very common in South China, and later changed the name of the temple to "Hongfa Temple" by Grand Master Zhengguo, the vice-president of the China Buddhist Association. Later, Master Zhengguo, vice president of the China Buddhist Association, renamed the temple as "Hongfa Temple". ". With the support of many parties, Venerable Ben Huan formally took up residence at Hongfa Temple in 1991 and continued the construction while propagating the Dharma.

The construction of the Hongfa Monastery is the fullest manifestation of the Party and Government's policy of freedom of religious belief and openness, and an outstanding achievement of the broadest patriotic united front in the new era. In order to effectively return to the community and serve the community, Hongfa Temple has established a permanent charitable organization to ensure that "doing our duty" is implemented in practice from the mechanism.

In recent years, under the leadership of Elder Ben Huan's spirit of "not seeking happiness for oneself, but wishing all beings to be free from suffering as early as possible", the Buddhist community in Shenzhen has been actively involved in social welfare and charitable causes, vigorously guiding the majority of believers to participate in the heart, and has made a total of nearly one hundred million yuan of donations to social welfare and charitable causes since 2005.

First, to build a platform to gather good power. In order to integrate the charitable resources of the Shenzhen Buddhist community and gather the power of all parties to do good, we actively carry out the re-certification and registration work of Shenzhen Hongfa Temple Charitable Merit Foundation. Responding to the call of the government, the Buddhist community in Shenzhen has donated more than 5 million yuan for poverty alleviation in the old, young and remote areas, and more than 3.6 million yuan for poverty alleviation in Shaoguan, Heyuan and other areas in northern Guangdong in recent years.

In the long history of Buddhist culture, Chinese Zen Buddhism has always been filled with a strong sense of introspection, criticism and emancipation, and is the closest to the thrust and spirit of humanism. Ch'an Buddhism teaches that one should "point to the heart and see the nature of Buddha", affirming the significance and value of the "human being" and the "heart". Zen believes that every person in society is an independent individual, and that every heart is the initiator of thought, and that there is no absolute "yes" or "no"; therefore, anything that conforms to secular language or logic will be rebuked. This is because secular language has its limitations, and limited language conveys unlimited meanings. For example, red flower and white flower, between "red" and "white", are terms we use under the constraints of secular society, but in fact red is not red and white is not white; red can be white and white can be red, according to the needs of our secular people. Buddhism is not only rich in doctrine, but also full of the spirit of practice, only that all beings tend to forget their own hearts in the midst of worldly busyness.

The true meaning of humanism lies in the fact that it transcends race, geography and language and conveys a sense of close-knit emotion and care. The development of science and technology and the high energy of the electronic information age have condensed the 80,000-mile globe into a small global village, where all the people of the globe live in the same village and share the same fate, making it difficult for them to separate from each other. If the village in front of us is in trouble, the store behind us will never be spared; only through self-help and mutual assistance can we create a vision together. This is also the interpretation of Shenzhen Buddhism on "Humanistic Buddhism".

Shenzhen is adjacent to Hong Kong and Macao, and is a special economic zone with developed information and a high degree of internationalization. It is an important transit place for overseas Buddhist communities to visit and for domestic Buddhist communities to go out for visits, so it has a unique geographic advantage to carry out friendly exchanges of Buddhism with foreign countries. Every large-scale Buddhist activities in Shenzhen, almost all monks from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Southeast Asia and even Europe and the United States come to participate in mutual learning, mutual understanding, enhance the friendship and promote the development of all aspects. Since 2005, Hongfa Temple has included the standardization of temple operations and the strengthening of exchanges between Chinese and foreign Buddhist activities into the framework of "Dharma Meeting and Human Culture", integrating resources and advancing in an orderly manner.

Shenzhen Buddhism actively goes out to understand the development of Buddhism in other countries and learns advanced Buddhist management experience, and has organized Shenzhen Buddhist delegations to visit India, Thailand and other countries, which is very beneficial. Hongfa Temple Sangha Choir went to Hong Kong, three Southeast Asian countries, South Korea, Germany and other places to perform "Divine Harmony", which also aroused great social repercussions in the local community, not only spreading Chinese Buddhist culture and Buddhist music, but also publicizing China's policy of freedom of religion and belief, and playing a positive role in increasing the reputation of Chinese Buddhism in the world of Buddhist exchanges. In 2006, we organized the Three Great Precepts ceremony at Hongfa Temple, the Shenzhen-themed activities of the Guangdong Zen History and Culture Corridor Series, in 2008, the Abbot's ascension to the throne of Hongfa Temple, the inauguration of the Dahuaxing Temple in Yantian, the placing and inauguration of the Four-Faced Buddha presented by Thailand at Wanfo Zen Monastery in Luohu, the first Buddhist Cultural Festival in Shenzhen, and in 2009, we held the Chanting Evening Party with the theme of "Heavenly Melody". In 2009, we assisted the CBA in organizing the preceptor ordination activities in the Western Monastery in Hong Kong, the selection of mainland monks to study at the Singapore Buddhist College, the hosting of Japanese monks for meditation experience in China to enhance the exchanges and contacts between the Chinese and Japanese Buddhist communities, and the annual birthday activities of the great Buddhist master, Elder Ben Huan, etc. In the course of organizing and hosting these activities, we also organized the first Four-Face Buddha installation and inauguration in Shenzhen. In the process of organizing and holding these activities, always according to the law, according to the regulations, carefully organized, closely arranged, to ensure that the number of participants in these large-scale large-scale Buddhist activities are held in a warm atmosphere, but also standardized and orderly. The series of practices of Shenzhen Buddhism not only meets the needs of the believing masses, edifies the hearts of the society, promotes social harmony, enhances the exchanges and contacts between the Chinese and foreign Buddhist communities, but also enriches the form of external exchanges of Buddhism in China, making it develop in a more inclusive, harmonious and productive direction, and providing a feasible and desirable paradigm.
