At present, this definition is accepted by most scholars, and can also be expressed as "red layer landforms characterized by steep cliff slopes". Danxia landforms in China is widely distributed, has identified 1005 Danxia landforms, distributed in 28 provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities, special administrative regions). In the tropical and subtropical humid zone, temperate humid - semi - humid, semi-arid - arid zone and the Tibetan Plateau alpine zone are distributed; the lowest elevation can be formed in the east of the coastal zone, the highest elevation can be found in the Tibetan Plateau of more than 4,000m. However, it is relatively concentrated in the southeast, southwest and northwest regions. In addition to China, it is also found in Central Europe and Australia, with China being the most widely distributed.

     In 1928, Feng Jinglan and others named the red strata constituting Danxia Mountain and the corresponding strata in northern Guangdong as "Danxia Layer", and in 1938, Chen Guoda first put forward the concept of "Danxia Mountain Terrain", and in 1939, he formally used the concept of "Danxia Terrain". In 1939, Chen Guoda officially used the taxonomic term "Danxia Terrain", and the concepts of Danxia Layer and Danxia Terrain (terrain i.e. landforms) have been used ever since.

     Sichuan Province is one of the provinces in China with the largest distribution area of Danxia landforms, the best development of Danxia landforms, and the best combination of natural and humanistic Danxia landscapes. In Xinlong County, Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, on the western Sichuan Plateau at an altitude of more than 4,000 meters, well-developed and large-scale Danxia landforms have been found.      Prof. Peng Hua was born in 1956 in Dangshan, Anhui Province, and served as a doctoral supervisor in the School of Geographic Science and Planning of Zhongshan University of Fire Sciences; he is an expert enjoying the "Government Special Allowance" of the Yuan State Council, and also serves as the Chairman of the International Association of Geomorphologists Red Layer and Danxia Geomorphology Working Group, Director of the Red Layer and Danxia Research Working Group of the Chinese Geographic Society, and a scientific adviser to the engineers of the Danxia Mountain.
 

     Prof. Peng Hua, as the leader of scientific research on Danxia landforms in China, and the advocate, initiator and chief scientist of China's Danxia nomination for World Natural Heritage, has contributed to the research on Danxia landforms.

     It has made outstanding contributions to the systematization and internationalization of research and to the successful nomination of Danxia as a World Natural Heritage Site in China.
 

     Over the years, Prof. Peng Hua has devoted himself to the protection and utilization of Danxia landforms, and persistently promoted the inscription of "China Danxia" on the "World Heritage List". It is precisely because of his persistence and love that he has finally brought China Danxia to the world and scientific research on Danxia landforms to the world, and he has been honored by experts at home and abroad as "Danxia Peng".

     At a time when the Danxia geomorphology discipline is booming in China and the world, Professor Peng Hua, a leading figure in the scientific research of Danxia geomorphology and a pioneer in tourism development research, tourism geography and tourism planning in China, passed away on January 8, 2018 at the age of 62 in Guangzhou due to illness.

     Since the 1980s, Prof. Peng Hua has been serving in the protection and utilization of Danxia Mountain, and he has always been devoted to Danxia Mountain, always taking the protection, research and sustainable development of Danxia Mountain as his mission which he will never relax. From the declaration of national scenic spots to the World Geopark, World Natural Heritage, from scientific research to tourism development, his footprints throughout the Danxia reflect the hot land.

     In the 40 years of reform and opening up, under Prof. Peng Hua's dedication, Danxia Mountain has grown into a world-famous mountain, a global research base of Danxia geomorphology and a model of sustainable development. The bond between a mountain and a person is forever engraved in the Red Cliffs of Danxia, and at the end of July 2010, China successfully passed six famous mountains to become a World Natural Heritage Site at one time, which is still the only case in the world.

     The National Symposium on Red Layer and Danxia Geomorphology is held regularly under the initiative of Prof. Peng Hua. The 18th National Academic Symposium on Red Layer and Danxia Geomorphology and Symposium on Tourism Development of Xinlong County in Xinlong County, Ganzi Prefecture, Sichuan Province, was also under the leadership of Prof. Peng Hua. On the first day of Professor Peng Hua's death (January 7, 2018), he and Tang Chunrong, director of the Culture, Tourism, Broadcasting, Film and Television Bureau of Xinlong County, were planning in WeChat where to set up toilets in the Xinlong Danxia Scenic Area.

     According to the person in charge of publicity in Xinlong County, the seminar will be held for more people to recognize Xinlong, pay attention to Xinlong Tourism; excavation of Xinlong landscapes and humanities resources, promote the excavation and protection of Xinlong County Danxia Landscape Scenic Spot and other scenic spots and tourist resources and the development of utilization; enrich the connotation of tourism, increase the popularity of Xinlong Tourism; promote the development of the whole area of Xinlong County Tourism, and effectively enhance the happiness index of the people's life in the region. The company has laid a solid foundation for the development of tourism in Xinlong County.
 

     It is reported that during the 3-day seminar, in addition to continuing academic discussions, there will be a field trip to Danxia landforms, a seminar on the development of cultural tourism in Xinlong County, a seminar on the promotion of cultural tourism in Xinlong County to attract investment and the adoption of documents for the General Assembly and other matters.
