     By Zhou Na Beijing  On the afternoon of December 19, 2019, the Sixth General Meeting of the Board of Governors of the China International Cultural Exchange Center (hereinafter referred to as: the Cultural Center) was grandly held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Comrade Yang Chuantang, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and Party Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC), was elected as the Chairman of the Sixth Governing Board of the Cultural Center. Cai Mingzhao, Wang Shouwen, Yin Hong, Fu Hua, Li Baodong, He Jianzhong, Xu Lirong, Cai Jianjiang, Li Jianhong, Chen Fenjian, Sun Wenqing and other 11 comrades were elected as vice-chairmen of the Sixth Council of the Cultural Center, and more than 60 experts and scholars were elected as council members, and nearly 200 guests from all walks of life participated in the conference.

     Chairman Yang Chuantang delivered an important speech and put forward four opinions on the future work of the Cultural Center: First, insist on the important exposition of General Secretary Xi Jinping on the work of cultural exchanges to lead the work of cultural exchanges. General Secretary Xi Jinping's important exposition on cultural exchanges reflects his firm cultural self-confidence, excellent political wisdom, and broad-mindedness, which provides a fundamental guideline for us to do a good job in cultural exchanges. Secondly, entering the new era, international cultural exchange work stands on a new historical starting point. To deeply realize that we have entered a new era of "strong"; to deeply realize that we are facing many great struggles with many new historical characteristics; to deeply realize that China is opening up a new round of high-level opening up to the outside world. Third, the cultural center work to strengthen the new mission and new responsibility. We should always adhere to the correct political direction; we should continue to expand the exchange platform; we should continue to enhance the brand influence; we should continue to strengthen the team building. Fourth, the work of the cultural center to add new power to achieve new action. Our strong spiritual power in the new era comes from Xi Jinping's thought of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era, and from the profound Chinese traditional culture, we should spread the Chinese spirit, Chinese values and Chinese culture to the world, and realize new actions.

     Xu Honghai, Secretary General, made a "Report on the Work of the Fifth Council of the Cultural Center" (hereinafter referred to as "the Report") to the General Assembly, summarizing the work of the Cultural Center in the past five years, and reviewing the development process of the Cultural Center over the past 35 years since its establishment. Over the past 35 years, the Cultural Center has not forgotten its original mission, adhered to high-level and high-level foreign cultural exchange activities as a carrier, and done a lot of work in expanding overseas contacts, opening up overseas cooperation channels, building a platform for civil friendships, and serving the overall situation of the country, etc., which has made remarkable achievements.

     In 2014, General Secretary Xi Jinping made an important instruction on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Cultural Center: "Since its establishment 30 years ago, the China International Cultural Exchange Center has made important contributions to expanding cultural exchanges with foreign countries, promoting Chinese culture to the world, serving the overall situation of the country, and enhancing the friendship between the Chinese people and people of other countries in the world. It is hoped that the Centre will seriously sum up its experience, give full play to the advantages of private contacts, adhere to the forward direction of advanced socialist culture, vigorously carry forward China's outstanding traditional culture, and enhance China's cultural soft power and safeguard world peace by promoting the exchanges and blending of various human civilizations and mutual learning and appreciation."

     Over the past five years, the Cultural Center has deeply studied and implemented the important instructions given by General Secretary Xi Jinping at the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Cultural Center, actively and proactively done the work of foreign cultural exchanges, pioneered and innovated, and made its due contribution to the enhancement of China's cultural soft power and the building of a community of human destiny. It has organized tours to more than 50 countries in Asia, America, Europe and Africa, received more than 3,000 people in 100 batches from more than 70 countries and regions, and held more than 300 performances, exhibitions, conferences and forums.

     On the same day, as the first important activity launched after the sixth session of the Cultural Center's Board of Directors Meeting, the China International Cultural Exchange Center's "Belt and Road" Institute for Financial Cooperation was also formally inaugurated in the Great Hall of the People, and the Institute is the first important activity of Yang Chuantang after he took over as the Chairman of the Cultural Center.
