    LOS ANGELES, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) \u2014 (Reporter Guo Shuang) The 73rd World Science Fiction Convention, held in Spokane, Washington, announced on the 22nd that Chinese author Liu Cixin had won the Hugo Award\u2014the highest honor in the world of science fiction\u2014for his novel *The Three-Body Problem*. This marks the first time a Chinese author has received this award.<\/span>
\n    The winner of this year\u2019s Hugo Award for Best Novel is the first book in the English-language edition of *The Three-Body Problem* series. Liu Yukun, the translator, attended this year\u2019s World Science Fiction Convention on behalf of Liu Cixin and took the stage to accept the award. Liu Yukun read Liu Cixin\u2019s acceptance speech on stage: \u201cThe Hugo Award is a beacon in the world of science fiction, but I never imagined I would receive this award.\u201d<\/span>
\n    In a previous interview with the media, Liu Cixin said that *The Three-Body Problem* has tens of thousands of \u201cfans\u201d in China, and that he is one of them. The novel tells a highly imaginative story that addresses common challenges facing humanity. At the same time, the story of *The Three-Body Problem* is rooted in ancient and modern Chinese history, is imbued with strong emotion, and leaves a lasting impression.<\/span>
\n    Liu Cixin\u2019s science fiction series *The Three-Body Problem* (also known as the \u201cEarth Chronicles\u201d trilogy) consists of three novels: *The Three-Body Problem*, *The Dark Forest*, and *Death\u2019s End*. The stories take a grand perspective, exploring a fundamental question in science fiction\u2014the fate of humanity and the universe\u2014from a Chinese viewpoint.<\/span>
\n    After the English edition of *The Three-Body Problem* was published in the United States last year, it sparked a craze for Chinese science fiction and received nominations for five international fantasy literature awards: the Nebula Award, the Hugo Award, the Locus Award, the Campbell Award, and the Prometheus Award. The English edition of the first book in the *The Three-Body Problem* series has an average rating of four and a half stars (out of five) on Amazon, with the majority of reviews from both critics and readers being positive.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\tNamed in honor of Hugo Gensb\u00e4ck, a world-renowned science fiction writer of the 20th century, this award in the science fiction literary world is presented by the World Science Fiction Society and is known as the Hugo Award. The 2015 award was determined by a vote of the World Science Fiction Society\u2019s 5,950 members, setting a record for the highest number of votes cast. In the global science fiction community, the Hugo Award and the Nebula Award, established by the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, are widely recognized as the two most authoritative and influential international science fiction awards.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n
