Bahrain: The Land of the Mound that Shocked the World

Bahrain was formerly a British colony.1971surname Nian8moon15Independence was proclaimed on September 1, with the capital city of Manama. In the early days, the people of Bahrain made their living mainly by pearl gathering, fishing and commerce, and were the center of pearl gathering and trade in the Gulf region.1933After the discovery of oil in 2007, Bahrain made a spectacular turnaround and became the banking and financial center of the Gulf region.

One of the best things to do when traveling to Bahrain is to visit its capital, Manama. In Manama, the contrast between the ancient and the modern is striking: on the one hand, there are luxurious hotels, tall banks, and elegant mansions, and on the other hand, there are clusters of old Arabian houses and a labyrinth of winding alleys; camels can lie down and nap in front of banks with billions of dollars of capital; old two-wheeled, topless carriages that traveled in the desert run side-by-side with new Mercedes-Benz sedans; people learn the Koran from a color television; women wear traditional black robes from head to toe and new Parisian fashions; and there are many people who wear the traditional black robe. The Koran is taught on color TVs; women wear traditional head-to-toe black gowns and new Parisian fashions. 

The city is dotted with date palm groves and sweet spring water, and numerous orchards produce a variety of fresh fruits. The city's streets are lined with greenery, and there are many date palms and palm trees in front of and behind the houses, making it one of the few green cities in the Gulf. In the outskirts of the city, farmland and orchards are irrigated by springs, and small lakes and streams are formed by springs gushing out of the ground, making the scenery of the island's capital particularly soft and beautiful. 

One of the most noteworthy features of Manama's 568 square kilometers is the world's largest forest of prehistoric burial mounds, which has led to the island of Bahrain becoming known as the "Island of Mounds" and the "Island of the Dead". This sea of burial mounds, perched in the northern part of Bahrain Island, west of the capital, Manama, stretches for dozens of miles and covers an area of over 1,000 square kilometers.30More than a square kilometer. There are two types of ancient Bahraini tombs. Most of them are single tombs, which are relatively simple and were probably used for the burial of civilians. The tomb is made of gray stone, the ground is paved with fine sand, the top of the tomb is covered with stone slabs, the door of the tomb is opened in the west, and the remains lie on their sides with their heads facing east and their feet facing west in a bow shape. There are not many double tombs buried together, probably owned by the upper class. The tomb is like a two-story building, with the head of the grave above the ground.4.6meters, diameter20Meters. The burial chamber was located at the eastward end, with ear rooms on both sides and two windows opened on the right wall of the ground floor. The funerary objects are very rich, in addition to the bones of sheep, antelopes, dogs and other animals, a large number of striped earthenware jars, red-glazed vases, metal spearheads and daggers, there are also gold-made wards against evil spirits, bronzes and silvers engraved with fine patterns, ornaments made of ostrich eggshells, and ivory-made small boxes.
