The event was attended by representatives from the Quality Inspection Center of the Ministry of Agriculture of China, the Citrus Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the China Fruit Circulation Association, the Expert Group for Bringing Agricultural Science and Technology to Rural Areas, Beijing Dongzhe Times Technology Co., Ltd., China Agricultural Science, Education, and Promotion Brand Research Institute, the Agriculture and Rural Economy Group of the Sichuan Provincial Decision-Making Advisory Committee, the Sichuan Provincial Rural Development Promotion Association, the Sichuan Provincial Smart Agriculture Science and Technology Association, and Shaanxi Haisheng Group Fushun Chaoyue Modern Agriculture Co., Ltd.—along with agricultural science and technology experts and the Deputy Secretary of the Fushun County Committee of the Communist Party of China—attended the event.Wan Chunxia and Fushun CountyLeaders in charge of 26 towns and townships, as well as directors of agricultural service centers, attended the meeting. More than 200 guests, experts in agricultural science and technology, and media reporters from Beijing and Sichuan Province gathered in Fushun to witness the bountiful harvest of premium citrus fruits and discuss ways to revitalize rural industrial development and make a decisive push toward building a moderately prosperous society in all respects.

     At the opening ceremony, Wan Chunxia, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Fushun County Committee, on behalf of the CPC Fushun County Committee, the Fushun County Government, andOn behalf of the 1.08 million residents of Fushun, I extend my congratulations on the grand opening of the “First China·Fushun Premium Citrus Selection and Brand Development Promotion Conference”! She说“Fushun County is located in the southern part of the Sichuan Basin, along the lower reaches of the Tuo River. With a total area of 1,342 square kilometers, it is a national comprehensive pilot county for new-type urbanization, one of the province’s first pilot counties for expanding local government authority and strengthening county governance, a pilot county for comprehensive supporting reforms to coordinate urban and rural development, and a provincial pilot county for rural revitalization planning. The area is highly representative of the region: Fushun is situated at the geometric center of the Southern Sichuan Urban Cluster, with hilly terrain accounting for more than 90% of the county’s total area. with a mild climate, abundant rainfall, fertile soil, and ample sunlight. These superior natural conditions make it one of the most suitable regions in the country for citrus cultivation. The Tarocco blood oranges, Golden Autumn sugar oranges, and Chunjian oranges produced here feature vibrant colors, rich flavors, and superior quality. The region boasts a rich agricultural and rural heritage: as early as 1,600 years ago during the Jin Dynasty, citrus orchards centered around fortified settlements had already emerged in Fushun. In the 1970s, red tangerines from Yongnian Fort and Zhai in our county were exported to the Soviet Union and distributed throughout Southeast Asia, underscoring the long history of ‘Fushun Red Tangerines.‘ ‘Fushun Regenerative Rice‘ has been designated a National Geographical Indication Protected Product; ’Fushun Spicy Sauce‘ ranked on the ‘China Brand Value Evaluation List‘ with a value of 6.3 billion yuan; ’Fushun Tofu Pudding‘ is renowned nationwide; and the total output value of agricultural product processing by enterprises above a certain scale exceeds 10 billion yuan. This region abounds with talent in the ”agriculture, rural areas, and farmers” sector: Fushun is the homeland of Ba-Shu scholars, with a rich agricultural heritage that has nurtured a large number of professionals in agriculture-related fields. They have long been rooted in rural communities, are deeply committed to the “agriculture, rural areas, and farmers” cause, and are willing to make sacrifices, thereby laying a solid foundation for the development of this sector.”

     Wen Xintian, former president of Sichuan Agricultural University, deputy head of the Agriculture and Rural Economy Group of the Sichuan Provincial Decision-Making Advisory Committee, and deputy head of the China Agricultural Science and Technology Outreach Expert Group, said in an impromptu speech that China willWith the goal of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects by 2020, the tasks facing agriculture and rural areas are extremely demanding, and the timeline is extremely tight. Developing modern agriculture is key, and a thriving agricultural sector is the primary task for rural revitalization. Fushun County enjoys a superior location and convenient transportation, features a harmonious blend of mountains and water and a beautiful environment. In particular, it boasts a distinctive citrus industry spanning more than 200,000 mu. As long as we fully leverage local advantages, resolutely pursue the path of modern agricultural development, rely on scientific and technological progress and its contribution to growth, broaden our horizons, and compete in the market with high-quality branded products, the citrus industry has a bright future and excellent prospects.            

Wen Xintian, former president of Sichuan Agricultural University, deputy head of the Agriculture and Rural Economy Group of the Sichuan Provincial Decision-Making Advisory Committee, and deputy head of the China Agricultural Science and Technology Outreach Expert Group, delivered a speech.

     In his speech, Wang Chengqiu, Executive Deputy Director of the Quality Inspection Center of the Ministry of Agriculture and a professor, briefed the attendees on the global status of the citrus industry and shared his insights on how to build a citrus brand. He said that China currently hasWith a citrus industry spanning 2.64 million hectares and per capita consumption reaching 26.7 kilograms, China ranks first in the world in both cultivation area and production. To build a citrus brand, it is essential to have a sound ecological environment and a strong sense of cultural identity, as well as cultural depth and a compelling narrative. High-quality varieties must be selected to achieve large-scale, standardized, and branded production. Professor Wang also elaborated in detail on the technical knowledge essential for citrus brand production, including soil conditions, ecological environment, production standards, green ecological pest control, the scientific use of formulated pesticides, the prevention of water pollution and pests and diseases, and ensuring product safety.         

     Li Zexuan, President of the Fushun County Citrus Industry Association in Zigong City and Senior Agricultural Technical Advisor, delivered a speech on behalf of the organizers. After introducing the association’s functions, responsibilities, and the important role it plays in rural revitalization, industrial prosperity, and poverty alleviation, he said: “ Fushun sugar oranges represent the first citrus industry in China to achieve full-chain traceability across the entire industry. Every enterprise involved in the cultivation, production, processing, and sales of Fushun sugar oranges can ensure traceability, and all Fushun sugar oranges are assigned a unique code per product. This technical approach guarantees product quality and safety and ensures a standardized industrial system. As early as the 1980s, Fushun citrus was sold throughout China’s eastern, western, and northern regions and exported to countries such as Russia. In 1987, the county was designated by the Ministry of Agriculture as a national commercial citrus production base. The Fushun Jin Orange, Fushun Luo Navel, and and Huaci successively won gold medals at the First and Second National Agricultural Expositions and were recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture as national brand-name products. In 2013, Fushun County was designated by the Sichuan Provincial People’s Government as a key county for modern agricultural industries, with citrus as its leading industry.
