More than 200 guests from politics, academia, religion and art gathered in Jiangyin.
Venerable Juzan was the only Buddhist leader who ascended the Tiananmen Square Tower in the Founding Ceremony, and the first vice president of the China Buddhist Association. During the war, he was praised by Zhou Enlai, Ye Jianying and other leaders for organizing the "Nanyue Buddhist and Taoist Relief Association", and for founding the monthly magazine "The Lion's Roar" for propaganda of the war against the Japanese invasion, and Premier Zhou Enlai once inscribed for him Premier Zhou Enlai wrote an inscription for him, "Killing the enemy on the horse, learning Buddhism on the horse".
The theme of this event is to remember the lifetime deeds and aspirations of Venerable Juzan, to deeply realize and reflect on the "Juzan Spirit", and to deeply explore and excavate how to pass on and carry forward the "Juzan Spirit". The series of activities commemorating the 110th anniversary of the birth of patriotic monk Juzan was jointly organized by Juzan Cultural Research Association, Lingyin Temple in Hangzhou, Nanyue Buddhist Association in Hunan Province, Longhua Ancient Monastery in Guangxi Province, China Buddhist Book and Cultural Relics Museum, and Jiangyin Buddhist Association.
During the event, the "Commemoration of the 110th Anniversary of the Birth of the Patriotic Monk Juzan Venerable" was also held. Yu Weicai, Vice Mayor of Jiangyin City, Jiangsu Province, Venerable Yuan Zhi, Director of the Chinese Buddhist Library and Cultural Relics, Venerable Zhankong, Vice President of Guangxi Buddhist Association, Venerable Fazhan, Vice President of Guangdong Provincial Buddhist Association, Venerable Mingguang, Vice President of Taiwan Buddhist Association, and Chen Jianhua, Deputy Secretary General of Jiangsu Provincial Buddhist Association cut the ribbon for the opening of the calligraphy and painting joint exhibition. Venerable Master, Deputy Secretary General of the Buddhist Association of Jiangsu Province, Chen Jianhua, cut the ribbon for the opening of the joint exhibition of calligraphy and painting. Among them, the oil painting "Venerable Master Juzan's Dharma Appearance" created by well-known Buddhist artist Zhou Na was praised by the experts and scholars attending the meeting, and the chief planner of the event, Prof. Liu Yuanchun, praised Zhou Na for painting Venerable Master Juzan's charisma.
The second highlight of the event was an academic seminar by the participating guests centered on Venerable Juzan's New Buddhist Thought and Humanistic Buddhism, and Venerable Juzan and Chinese Traditional Culture. It was moderated by Prof. Liu Yuanchun. More than 10 monks and scholars, including Prof. Yang Zengwen, Master Mingguang, Venerable Faying, Venerable Daen, Venerable Chao Boredom, Venerable Yuanzhu, Prof. Xueyu, Venerable Zhankong, and Venerable Huaifan, made speeches.
During the event, guests who came to participate in the "Cultural Series of Activities Commemorating the 110th Anniversary of the Birth of Venerable Juzan" made flower offerings in front of the statue of Venerable Juzan in order to express their admiration for the sage.
